Ingredients

1 pound sliced dried chipped beef
1/3 pound butter-melted
1 cup flour
1 quart milk
1 quart Half and Half
dash black pepper

Instructions

Soak beef in water for 5-10 minutes.  Drain off water.  Chop beef into thin cubes and saute in butter for 3-5 minutes.  Add flour slowly while stirring.  Slowly stir in the milk and Half and Half.  Season to taste with black pepper.  Cook over low heat until mixture begins to thicken.  Remove from heat.  Mixture will continue to thicken as it cools.  Makes about 3 quarts.  Serve over toast.
